A pet makes a haus a home: helping rescue pets find forever families across the UAE

Every day, people scroll through property listings imagining the life they'll build in a new home.

Where the sofa will go. Which room will become the nursery. Where friends will gather.

But what if, while searching for your next home, you also met someone else looking for theirs?

That's the idea behind A Pet Makes a Haus a Home - a new initiative from haus & haus that's helping rescue dogs and cats across the UAE find the loving families they deserve.

Launched on 29 July 2026, the initiative brings the worlds of property and pet adoption together by introducing rescue animals to people already imagining life in a new home.

Working with K9 Friends and Animals & Us Fujairah, haus & haus has set a target of helping around 50 rescue pets find their forever homes. Using carefully created AI imagery inspired by real haus & haus properties, every rescue pet is shown where they could belong — at home, relaxed in the living room.

Not because they already live there...

But because someone could give them that future.

Why haus & haus launched the campaign

Behind every featured pet is a rescue organisation working tirelessly to give abandoned animals another chance. K9 Friends and Animals & Us Fujairah care for hundreds of dogs and cats every year, but like many rescues across the UAE, space is limited and demand never stops.

Recent events across the region have placed additional pressure on rescue organisations, with more pets needing support as families face sudden changes in their circumstances. For shelters already working with limited space and resources, every new arrival adds to the challenge.

Every successful adoption doesn't just change one animal's life. It creates space to rescue another.

Every day, rescue teams care for animals hoping someone will give them a second chance. Yet many wonderful dogs and cats simply aren't seen by the people who could offer them a home. A dog or cat may have the right personality for a particular family but still struggle to reach the people who are ready to adopt.

As a real estate company, haus & haus helps people search for places where they can build their lives. The team recognised that the same platform could also help animals searching for somewhere to belong.

“At haus & haus, we're in the business of helping people find a place to call home, so supporting animals searching for a loving family felt like a natural extension of what we do. People visit our website every day imagining the next chapter of their lives, and we realised that same journey could also help rescue animals begin theirs.”

Lucy Nickerson, Marketing Director at haus & haus

By using the reach of its property platform to showcase rescue pets to people already imagining life in a new home, haus & haus is helping K9 Friends and Animals & Us Fujairah introduce more animals to potential adopters across the UAE.

The aim is not simply to create attention around the campaign. It is to encourage more people to consider pet adoption in the UAE and connect suitable adopters directly with the organisations responsible for each animal.

Supporting K9 Friends and Animals & Us Fujairah

A Pet Makes a Haus a Home has been developed in partnership with two established UAE rescue organisations.

K9 Friends is one of the participating organisations supporting the dog adoption side of the campaign.

The organisation welcomed the idea of placing rescue animals at the centre of home-inspired listings. Its campaign representative highlighted that each successful adoption changes life for both the animal and the family, while also helping rescue organisations make room for the next animal needing support.

People interested in one of the dogs featured through K9 Friends will be directed to the organisation for further information and the appropriate adoption process.

Animals & Us Fujairah is helping introduce both rescue animals and the wider challenges facing rehoming organisations to a larger audience.

The organisation described property listings as a natural platform for encouraging people to think about adoption while they are already considering what makes somewhere feel like home.

As with K9 Friends, all enquiries relating to animals in its care are handled directly by the organisation.

How A Pet Makes a Haus a Home works

The campaign reimagines the property search experience by introducing rescue pets into beautifully styled home environments inspired by real haus & haus listings. Instead of simply imagining where you might live, you can also imagine who might share that home with you.

Each featured dog or cat has its own profile, complete with imagery, a short biography and information about their personality, needs and the type of home that would suit them best. By helping people picture everyday life with a rescue pet, the campaign turns the idea of adoption into something real and personal.

When someone finds a pet they'd like to know more about, they're taken directly to the relevant rescue organisation. All enquiries, suitability checks and adoptions are managed by K9 Friends or Animals & Us Fujairah, whose teams know each animal and are best placed to find the right match.

The campaign's ambition is simple: to help around 50 rescue dogs and cats find loving forever homes. By showcasing rescue pets where people are already dreaming about their future home, the campaign introduces adoption at exactly the moment they're imagining what home really means.

What to consider before adopting a pet in the UAE

Seeing a dog or cat that immediately captures your attention can be the start of something special. Before making an enquiry, take time to consider whether adoption is right for your home and current circumstances.

Is everyone in the household ready?

Adopting a pet affects the entire household. Everyone should understand what will be involved and agree on responsibilities such as feeding, exercise, training, cleaning and veterinary appointments.

Consider children, existing pets and anyone in the home who may have allergies or feel uncomfortable around animals. The rescue organisation can help assess whether a particular animal is likely to suit the household.

Does your home allow pets?

Tenants should review their tenancy agreement and confirm any building or community requirements before adopting.

A property may offer enough physical space, but owners and tenants should also think about access to outdoor areas, lift use, balconies, noise and how comfortably the animal can move around the home.

A large villa does not automatically suit every dog, just as apartment living does not automatically rule out pet ownership. Temperament, energy level, age and routine can matter as much as property size.

Does the pet suit your lifestyle?

Consider how long the animal may be left alone, how often you travel and who will provide care when you are away.

Some dogs may need significant daily exercise and training. Others may prefer a quieter environment. Cats can also have different needs depending on their age, health, confidence and experience around other animals.

Be honest with the rescue organisation about your working hours, household and experience. This helps the team recommend a pet that is more likely to settle successfully.

Are you prepared for the ongoing commitment?

Pet ownership includes food, veterinary care, vaccinations, grooming, equipment, training and arrangements for travel or emergencies.

The commitment may last for many years. Prospective adopters should consider whether their housing, finances and routine can support the animal beyond the excitement of the first few weeks.
