About this area

This self-contained settlement sits on the desert outskirts of Dubai’s urban spread, providing unique living quarters for city workers and employees of Dubai Investment Park (DIP); a nearby industrial zone. Green Community is split into two sub-communities – East and West – boasting a high leaf-to-concrete ratio, with a low-rise retail and hospitality complex set around a landscaped central lake, incorporating the Courtyard by Marriot hotel and executive apartments. Residents living in Green Community can enjoy its relaxed, leafy feel and the relatively traffic-free nature of the area lends it an air of rustic tranquility. Accommodation is a mix of 3, 4, 5 and 6-bedroom villas, townhouses and bungalows, plus studio, 1, 2, 3 bedroom and duplex apartments. The land surrounding the original project has since been developed to include apartment blocks, retail parks, hotels, supermarkets, schools and numerous other residential and commercial buildings and projects, blurring the lines between what was and what is.

Eat, drink and shop

The Market mall has a choice of pharmacies, a pet store, bookshop, car rental, banks and some clothing and handicraft outlets, together with a large Choithrams supermarket. For restaurants in the Green Community area, there are several options available inside the mall, including Thai, Lebanese and Chinese, with many more lakeside eateries outside. For a more up-market experience, Cucina in the Courtyard by Marriot hotel is a cosy trattoria offering Italian delights. Upstairs, a bar with terrace gives views across the lake and beyond, providing the perfect spot to relax with a drink and compare the size of your BBQ with other residents. Several large supermarket chains are represented in the surrounding area, with Carrefour and Park N Shop branches located in local retail parks. There are also many fast food outlets and restaurants to suit all budgets.

Location. Location. Location.

Situated next to the DIP industrial area, the community has excellent links to other Emirates. The E313 Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road gives residents easy access to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. Al Maktoum International Airport is close by and travellers can reach Dubai International Airport in around 30 minutes. The nearest major mall is Ibn Battuta, with Mall of the Emirates around 15-20 minutes away and Mirdiff City Centre about 20 minutes drive, traffic permitting.

Out and about

As well as parks, swimming pools and children’s play areas, the landscaped grounds of Green Community provide a perfect place to walk, jog, ride a bike or settle down for a picnic. For more strenuous exercise the area has several gyms, including Fitness First and Fit4Life, or take things easy at a local spa. There’s a strong community spirit here, so it won’t be long before you’re hopping from one social invite to another. (Maybe practice your hummus recipe, as you don’t want to turn up empty handed.) The RTA’s much heralded Route 2020 plan shows a Metro station planned for the Green Community Village. As that’s still a few years away, it’s probably best to get yourself to Ibn Battuta Metro and take bus F42 or a taxi from there.

Primary to secondary

Most of the schools servicing Green Community residents are located in DIP, just a few minutes’ drive away. Pre-school options include Chubby Cheeks Nursery, The Children’s Garden and Kinderville Nursery in the European Business Centre. Primary choices include Dovecote Green School, which offers a British curriculum, and Greenfield Community School (GCS) offering the IB structure at primary and middle years. Nibras International School teaches an American curriculum from Kindergarden through to Grade 12.
