Eat, drink and shop
The Canal Promenade district is the main area for shopping, which includes an Al Maya Supermarket, bank, pharmacy and health clinic. Restaurants in Victory Heights include regular offerings like pizza or fish and chips, with other options like Wooden Cellar’s Greek menu, Walima’s Lebanese food, healthy-to-eat ices from Wanna Banana, and Reddy Roast’s British cuisine, which comes with views across the water. There are more food outlets in nearby Motor City and also Me’aisem City Centre, which will usually arrange delivery. For a more upmarket meal, try Big Easy Bar & Grill at the Els Club. The club also has indoor and outdoor informal dining at Bar & Restaurant 261 (named after an Ernie Els’ record breaking golf score – the 261 part, not Bar & Restaurant). For an even less formal experience, Kickers Sports Bar and Grill in Sports City ICC offers pub grub and a pint in a relaxed environment; perfect for watching big games.
Location. Location. Location.
Contained within Sports City, Victory Heights sits at the junction of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) and Al Khail Street (E44), between Motor City and Dubai Production City. Its location gives residents easy access to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. For travellers, Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport can be reached quite quickly by car and Dubai Investment Park is close by. Al Barsha and Mall of the Emirates are just 15-minutes drive away, with other areas of the city easily accessible: including The Springs, The Greens, Barsha Heights (Tecom), Media City, Internet City, JLT, Dubai Marina and JBR.
Out and about
Part of Victory Heights’ charm is the abundance of outdoor facilities on offer: cycle trails, walking paths, playgrounds, basketball courts, swimming pools, lakes, parks and more. For gym lovers, Fit Republik Fitness Centre offers exercise facilities and there’s a branch of Fitness First in nearby Motor City. In addition to the community’s centerpiece Ernie Els championship course, there are several other good courses nearby and if you want to improve your swing the Butch Harmon School of Golf can help. For a different kind of swing, the David Lloyd Next Generation Club & Tennis Academy is also on the doorstep, with many other sporting facilities, clubs and associations in nearby Sports City. Transport in Victory Heights mostly requires a car, as the area isn’t near the Dubai Metro line, however the F29 bus service operates to get people to and from the city.
Primary to secondary
There are four local schools and nurseries in Dubai Sports City and Victory Heights, with plans for another seven in the pipeline. The Wonder Years Nursery operates on the British EYFS system (Early Years Foundation Stage), while the IDEA ELC nursery school offers the American Creative Curriculum. Victory Heights Primary School adopts the British curriculum, while Bradenton Preparatory School follows the US curriculum at nursery, kindergarten primary and intermediate secondary levels. Nearby, other options include: Dubai British School, JESS Primary and Secondary, Raffles International School, Gems World Academy, and Kings School in Al Barsha.
